Nitrogen Index takes 5 parameters from your silage analysis to produce a single value that you can use to show whether the Nitrogen supply to the grass was optimal, insufficient or excessive. It’s a handy tool to compare to other silages and measure improvement over time.
If the Nitrogen Index is not in the target range, you can improve your next crop with a higher or lower dose of Nitrogen, by mowing earlier or later or by harvesting after sunny weather.
At a glance, you will know if the Nitrogen supply was too high or too low. You can use this information to optimise your fertiliser applications and/or your mowing schedule for the next growing season.
In this way, the Nitrogen Index helps you produce silage that has an optimal yield and nutrient content, while ensuring efficient use of fertiliser inputs and avoiding negative environmental impact.
