Fresh Grass Monitoring Project in the Netherlands

Fresh Grass Monitoring Project in the Netherlands

11 June 2023

Together with 10* other advisory companies and Wageningen University, Eurofins Agro NL is testing fresh grass on a weekly basis with their ‘Fresh Grass Check’. The project started in 2018 with 19 dairy farmers and 7 industry partners, testing 345 samples in the first year. Today, we now have 55 dairy farmers involved with the project; working together with 10 partners with approximately 1650 samples due to be analyzed this year. Every year the project takes place during the grazing season and the agricultural magazine ‘Veeteelt’ publishes the outcome on a weekly basis on their website.

The Netherlands is split into 6 regions for the project, based on GPS coordinates of soil data. One interesting aspect of the project is that an organic farmer is represented in each region. By doing this, we can compare data from both conventional and organic farming.

This project is only possible with the help of many people, but especially our sample takers. They play a vital role in getting the samples to the lab on a weekly basis, for which we salute them!
