De vijfde editie van Nutrient Solutions for Greenhouse Crops is nu online beschikbaar en biedt wereldwijd ondersteuning bij nutriëntenmanagement in de glastuinbouw. Het handboek behandelt teelten in grond, potten en hydroponics met zowel anorganisch- als organische substraten en combineert bestaande bemestingsprincipes met actuele voedingsoplossingen en streefwaarden, afgestemd op moderne glastuinbouwteelten en analysemethoden.
Specifiek per gewas en teeltsysteem
De nieuwe editie behandelt de voedingsbehoefte van vruchtgroenten, bladgewassen, zachtfruit, snijbloemen en potplanten in de bedekte teelt. De nutriëntenoplossingen zijn afgestemd op het teeltsysteem, omdat beschikbaarheid en opname van voedingsstoffen sterk verschillen tussen grondteelt, organische substraten, anorganische substraten en hydroponics.
Het handboek is opgebouwd uit twee hoofdsecties. Sectie A bespreekt basisprincipes van bemesting, wortelmilieu en het samenstellen van voedingsoplossingen, inclusief rekenvoorbeelden met gangbare meststoffen. Sectie B bevat tabellen met voedingsoplossingen en streefwaarden voor analyses in het wortelmilieu, zowel voor hoofd- als sporenelementen, en geeft aanpassingen voor specifieke groeistadia of productiefases. Jan Hardeman is Accountmanager Horticulture bij Eurofins en ligt het belang toe van het handboek. "Monitoring van nutriënten in het wortelmilieu geeft je als teler de zekerheid dat een plant echt krijgt wat hij nodig heeft. Aan de hand van onze laboratorium analyses met daarbij de streefwaarden en recepten op onze rapporten of uit deze manual kan er direct bijgestuurd worden zodat een plant een topconditie krijgt."
Van analyse naar praktijk
Het handboek geeft voedingsoplossingen en streefwaarden weer voor verschillende analysemethoden. Of monsters nu uit irrigatiewater, anorganische of organische substraten of kasgrond komen, het handboek helpt laboratoriumresultaten te vertalen naar praktische bemestingsbeslissingen. Ook recirculatiesystemen worden ondersteund, met richtlijnen voor het berekenen van voedingsoplossingen en het bevorderen van zowel van nutrienten efficiëntie als stabiliteit.
De editie bevat enkele belangrijke aanpassingen, zoals bijgestelde natriumwaardes voor specifieke gewassen, en een uitgebreid hoofdstuk over nuttige elementen zoals Silicium (Si) en Jodium (I). Deze elementen worden steeds vaker toegepast in de glastuinbouw en kunnen plantprestaties verbeteren, maar zijn geen vervanging van essentiële voedingsstoffen.
Van Nederlands fundament tot wereldwijde toepassing
Het handboek bouwt voort op de Nederlandse Bemestingsadviesbasis Glastuinbouw (1999) en combineert decennia aan ervaring met internationale toepassingen. De eerste Engelse editie verscheen in 2016, waardoor deze kennis toegankelijk werd voor telers wereldwijd.
De publicatie is ontwikkeld in samenwerking met meststoffenproducenten, Eurofins en onafhankelijke experts. Alle voedingsoplossingen kunnen samengesteld worden met commerciële meststoffen van de deelnemende partijen. Het handboek vervangt geen professioneel advies, maar biedt een gedeeld referentiepunt voor betere beslissingen op het gebied van bemesting binnen glastuinbouwteelten..

The fifth edition of Nutrient Solutions for Greenhouse Crops is now available online and provides global support for nutrientmanagement in greenhouse horticulture. The handbook covers crops grown in soil, pots and hydroponics, using both inorganic and organic substrates. It combines established fertilisation principles with current nutrient solutions and target values, tailored to modern greenhouse crops and analytical methods.
Crop- and system specific
The new edition addresses the nutritional needs of fruiting vegetables, leafy crops, soft fruit, cut flowers and potted plants grown under cover. The nutrient solutions are tailored to each cultivation system, because nutrient availability and uptake vary significantly between soil-grown crops, organic substrates, inorganic substrates and hydroponics.
The handbook is divided into two main sections. Section A discusses the basic principles of fertilisation, the root environment and the formulation of nutrient solutions, including calculation examples using common fertilizers. Section B contains tables with nutrient solutions and target values for root-zone analyses, covering both macro- and micronutrients, and offers adjustments for specific growth stages or production phases. Jan Hardeman, Account Manager Horticulture at Eurofins, explains the importance of the handbook: “Monitoring nutrients in the root environment gives growers the confidence that a plant truly receives what it needs. Using our laboratory analyses combined with the target values and recipes in our reports or this manual, growers can immediately adjust their fertilization strategy to keep plants in optimal condition.”
From analysis to practice
The handbook provides nutrient solutions and target values for various analytical methods. Whether samples originate from irrigation water, inorganic or organic substrates, or greenhouse soil, the handbook helps translate laboratory results into practical fertilisation decisions. Recirculation systems are also supported, with guidance on calculating nutrient solutions and improving both nutrient efficiency and solution stability.
This edition includes several important updates, such as revised sodium values for specific crops and an expanded chapter on beneficial elements like Silicon (Si) and Iodine (I). These elements are increasingly used in greenhouse horticulture and can enhance plant performance, though they are not substitutes for essential nutrients.
From Dutch foundations to global use
The handbook builds on the Dutch Bemestingsadviesbasis Glastuinbouw (1999) and combines decades of experience with international applications. The first English edition appeared in 2016, making this knowledge accessible to growers worldwide.
The publication was developed in collaboration with fertiliser manufacturers, Eurofins and independent experts. All nutrient solutions can be formulated using commercial fertilizers supplied by the participating parties. The handbook does not replace professional advice, but serves as a shared reference point to support better fertilisation decisions in greenhouse production.
